I actually had no comment , i just remenber when paregoric was used for teething babies,When i had my first in 1974, my grandmother had a drop left for babies discomfort,i have since learned that it can no longer be prescribed for that purpose.
my sons doctor just prescribed it for him because he is teething.
My doctor just gave this to my son who is cutting 7 teeth at once. At first I saw no relief but as we speak he is at least able to rest. He wasnt eating drinking or anything, so far this seems to give him the relief he needs to eat and rest. My mother said they used to give it to myself when I was an infant.
as previous comments stated, re paregoric and teething, my mother used it (i am 70 yrs old),as did i for all of my 5 children. it was sold over the counter then, and a bottle would last FOREVER, as i simply tipped the bottle onto my finger and rubbed it onto my childs gums, it provided great relief. it also helped immensely for colic, and one or two DROPS into an ounce or two of water with a touch of sugar in a bottle soothed the discomfort. i have a 10 mo old great grandson (one of 12) who is having a terrible time teething, and oh how i wish i could get some to ease his pain, as none of the ‘natural’ or store bought items work worth a darn. if not abused, or used by irresponsible mothers, i still feel it is a great medicine for infant teething and colic. i would be interested in finding out how laurie and derik were able to obtain a prescription for their children for paregoric. the main thing about it, is that you must be a responsible parent and use it VERY sparingly and only under the most extreme circumstances.
I used Paregoric with all 3 of my children. I have a 6 month old grandson whose gums are killing him and he doesn’t sleep or rest well due to this. I have mentioned this to his doctor but no response. It will not be abused and if it doesn’t work I will surely not continue use of it. But please let us try. Six months without sleep is wearing us all out.
